About the Video

This is an institutional video that we produced for the program "Passport to the Future," a collaboration between UFBA (The Federal University of Bahia), CEAO (Center for East-African Studies) and MAFRO (Afro-Brazilian Museum) with sponsorship from the Cooperforte Institute. We produced both a five-minute version and a sixteen-minute version.

The objective of the program "Passport to the Future" was to train black youth from poor neighborhoods in the area of museum monitoring. At the end of the project, they were given aid to find work in the museum market. To give viewers a good idea of what the project was like, shot and edited together a variety of interviews from project heads and young participants. Interviews included professor Marcelo Cunha, historian Juipurema Sandes, social assistant, Gilmara Lisboa, educator Denyse Emerich, several young participants and even the president of the Cooperforte Institute himself, Sr. J. Rogaciario dos Santos. We also filmed activities of the program and a variety of the cultural centers that the youth visited during the project.

A 16-minute version of the film was used as part of the graduation and closing ceremonies of the project to show everyone including sponsors and parents, the value of the project. The 5-minute version is still being used today by all entities envolved to showcase the work they had done to potential sponsors for their ongoing projects.
